This hike takes the shortest way to the gorgeous heart of the wilderness:  beautiful Everett and Magee Lakes

During the Ice Age, the main glacier dug out the basins the lakes shimmer from.  There are good campsites at both lakes

The climb to the the summit of Magee Peak goes up and up, until you finally crest the ridge for a full view of Lassen Peak.  And from the summit Shasta and much of the NorthState is spread out below you
